MOUNTAINEERING COURSE

Back

Medium

The Alpine Guides of the Alpinism, Ski Mountaineering, and Hiking School Pinzolo Val Rendena - MountainFriends - are organizing a high-altitude course on the peaks of the Adamello group.

The course is designed for climbers who are already capable of independently tackling high-mountain routes but wish to refine their skills and experience in this environment. The goal is to make participants self-sufficient in moving across glaciers, snowy slopes, and easy ridges of rock and snow. In addition to providing advice on personal techniques for progression on snow and rock, the course will focus on the various types of rope techniques to use when facing different terrains found in high mountains. Crossing a glacier, climbing mixed terrain on a ridge, overcoming steeper and more difficult sections, and rappelling on double rope are all situations that require different safety setups and maneuvers. Understanding the basic principles of each and knowing how to apply them throughout a day in the high mountains is the aim of this course.

The program consists of 3 days.

Day 1: The "Il Sentiero delle Acque Pendenti" (The Path of Hanging Waters) in Val di Genova is traversed. This is a route of grade II with a III° passage equipped with resin anchors. This allows addressing topics such as knot tying, lead climbing belay, second climber rescue, and progression techniques. At the end of the route, after about an hour of walking, Rifugio Mandrone is reached. Next to the refuge, there is a small climbing area where the practical maneuvers continue. (Elevation gain: +800 m)

Day 2: Ascent to Cresta Croce and Cresta Cannone. From Rifugio Mandrone, one heads towards the vast Adamello glacier. After traversing its initial part, turn left and, after a short steep section, reach the ridge leading to Cannone della Grande Guerra. Continue along the ridge to reach the summit of Cresta Croce and then descend to the "Ai caduti dell'Adamello" refuge. In the afternoon, descend again to Rifugio Mandrone. Throughout the day, techniques such as glacier rope tying, crevasse rescue maneuver, and setting deadman anchors in the snow will be covered. (Elevation gain: +700 m)

Day 3: Ascent to Cima Payer (partially equipped ridge route). Participants will take part in the ascent of this peak (which has been the scene of various events related to the First World War), putting into practice and refining the topics covered in the first two days. (Elevation gain: +600 m, followed by a long descent)
